Geopost, the mother company of DPD Slovakia, was recognized by the jury of the Global Sustainability & ESG Awards 2024 for taking bold action to significantly reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
The judges of the Global Sustainability & ESG Awards recognized the concrete and coherent nature of Geopost’s bold 2040 Net Zero strategy, as well as the company’s efforts to achieve such a strong target. In a pool of strong contenders, Geopost won the Sustainability Strategy Award.
Last year, Geopost became the first global parcel delivery company to have both its near- and long-term science-based targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), with the aim to reach Net Zero by 2040. Aligned with a 1,5°C trajectory, Geopost is committed to reducing absolute GHG emissions from scopes 1, 2 and 3 by 43% by 2030 and by 90% by 2040, compared with a 2020 baseline. This commitment, and associated roadmap, is fundamental to Geopost ramping up its efforts to achieve its climate goals and become recognized as the international reference in sustainable delivery.
The company has already deployed more than 9,300 low emission vehicles and offers fully low emission delivery solutions in 126 European cities. In total, Geopost has reduced its carbon emissions within the SBTi perimeter by 7.8% in absolute terms in the first quarter of 2024, equivalent to a reduction of 9.7% per parcel.
DPD Slovakia is also contributing to achieving these goals. As the first courier company in our country, it began building a fleet of electric vehicles back in 2012, and today, it delivers packages to customers every day using more than 155 alternatively fueled vehicles. In the past year alone, DPD delivered 2.4 million packages to customers in Slovakia using low-emission vehicles. By 2025, DPD will deliver packages exclusively by electric vehicles in all of Bratislava, joining other European cities where Geopost uses only low-emission vehicles. The company is also gradually preparing extensive charging infrastructure for the growing number of electric vehicles in its fleet and significantly increasing the share of energy used from sustainable sources.
