The E-shopper barometer 2023 survey showed that almost half (49%) of all Slovenian e-shoppers are regular e-shoppers, which means that they make at least one purchase per month. At the same time, it shows that the percentage of all e-buyers in Slovenia is lower than elsewhere in Europe (72% vs. 76%).
The e-shopper barometer survey has been conducted by Geopost, of which DPD Slovenia is also a part, for the eighth year in a row. It focuses on e-shopping trends and habits. More than 24,000 people in 22 countries across Europe took part in the latest survey, which took place between 31 May and 19 July 2023.
What are the latest behaviors and expectations of Slovenian e-buyers?
Although it has been considered for years that online shopping should save both time and money, this opinion is changing among Slovenian regular customers. Last year, 69% of survey participants were of the opinion that online shopping saves time, which is 11% less than in 2021.
Despite this, 72% of Slovenians still shop online, of which 49% are regular e-shoppers and receive at least one parcel per month.
The top three product categories that Slovenians buy the most are shoes, followed by beauty and health related products and fashion products.
The price of products is extremely important to us, which we give priority when deciding to buy. Interestingly, 54% of regular e-shoppers say they find almost 100% of the products and/or services they need online.
Top 3 preferences for delivery
Today's e-buyers primarily expect a smooth shopping experience, fast and reliable delivery, the ability to track their packages and the freedom to decide when and where the packages will be delivered.
This is also shown by the top 3 preferences for delivery, highlighted by regular Slovenian e-customers:
#1 – Knowing the exact date and time frame for delivery
#2 – More delivery options and parcel redirections
#3 – Next Day Delivery
DPD says that they are aware of the ever-increasing demands of their customers and parcel recipients and that they are trying to adapt to their wishes and needs. As a major competitive advantage, they highlight the fact that parcel recipients are informed of a 1-hour delivery time frame on the day of delivery, and that with the help of the myDPD application, they are given complete control over the delivery of the parcel, as they can choose both when and where the parcel is delivered to them.
Do you also shop "second-hand"?
Did you know that as many as 75% of Slovenian regular e-buyers sell and/or buy on the so-called C2C or "second-hand" platforms? The biggest reason for this is of course saving money, but also environmental awareness and support for local businesses or individuals. C2C commerce is growing so strongly that 38% of e-buyers use these platforms monthly.
Social networks - the new shopping paradise
Shopping via social networks has become a regular feature among Slovenian as well as European e-buyers. Social networks are thus developing new functions that allow more and more to be sold on the platforms.
The E-shopper barometer survey thus showed that 82% of Slovenian regular e-shoppers also use social networks for shopping purposes and that 60% of them shop directly on social platforms.
Why do e-buyers choose OOH delivery?
Although home delivery remains the most popular delivery option, the popularity of Out-of-Home delivery has been increasing in recent years.
37% of Slovenian e-buyers who choose Out-of-Home delivery prefer this delivery over other options. The advantages they see are mainly proximity, flexibility and cost efficiency.
Above all, the percentage of those who prefer delivery to parcel lockers has grown strongly. Here too, DPD follows the wishes and needs of its customers, which is why in the last year they have significantly increased their network of parcel lockers and currently have more than 200 of them all over Slovenia. With this, they also follow the strategy of Geopost, which reached the important milestone of 100,000 Pickup points at the end of 2023. In total, DPD has more than 840 Pickup points in Slovenia.
The e-shopper barometer really reveals many interesting findings about the trends and habits of e-shoppers, so you can read more at the link https://www.dpd.com/si/en/e-shopper-barometer-2023/.
