Ljubljana, August 2022 | GeoPost / DPDgroup has submitted its "net-zero" ambition to the Science Based Target initiative, which marks a further step on its climate action journey. They proposed a short-term, science-based goal for 2030 - to achieve "net-zero" emissions by 2040.
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global body that enables companies to set ambitious emission reduction targets based on the latest climate science. It is focused on encouraging companies around the world to halve emissions by 2030 and achieve "net-zero" emissions by 2050.
In the context of rapid growth in the e-commerce and parcel delivery sectors, GeoPost / DPDgroup has submitted its 2030 target to the SBTi for approval, as part of the ambitious long-term "net-zero" goal of 2040. This step demonstrates GeoPost / DPDgroup's ambition to we become an international reference in the field of sustainable delivery.
In order to emphasize our leading role, the company is taking decisive measures to achieve the "net-zero" goal by 2040 and is committed to drastically reducing greenhouse gas emissions:
-
by 43% by 2030 compared to the 2020 baseline
-
by 90% by 2040 compared to the baseline for 2020
-
the company will also neutralize all remaining emissions (around 10%) through appropriate compensation projects from 2040 onwards.
Yves Delmas, CEO of GeoPost / DPDgroup, commented on this key announcement for the company:
“At DPDgroup, we are strongly committed to energy transition, in line with our leading role in the business of e-commerce and delivery solutions. Today, we resolutely accelerate on our decarbonization pathway and commit to a more ambitious level of action. Our goal is to play a pivotal role for our customers and support them in developing an ever-more virtuous business model. It is a huge step, but I am confident we can achieve it, as our teams are fully engaged to drive change and meet the highest challenge of our times.”

-
diversifying the liner fleet to include alternative powertrain technologies such as biogas, biofuels, electric and hydrogen trucks, and shifting more packages to rail to increase the share of alternative liner solutions to 50% by 2030 (100% in 2040);
