We spoke with Andrej Modic, the founder of LokalnyRolnik.pl, about the practical applications of the DPD Food service
Where did the idea for a Local Farmer come from? Who are your customers?
LokalnyRolnik.pl is an online marketplace for authentic food. Our platform connects small-scale farmers and artisans eager to share their produce and products with conscious consumers seeking convenient access to high-quality, healthy, and trustworthy food.
The idea for the portal came from two needs. First, I’m originally from Slovenia, where a love for genuine food is profound. For over 30 years, my family has sourced food directly from local farmers. After moving to Poland, I began buying food from supermarkets, but unfortunately, my body didn’t respond well to the change in quality. I gained weight and felt awful, knowing I needed to make a change quickly.
Second, and more importantly, my wife and I were searching for safe products for our daughter Zarja, who has autism and a severe allergy to preservatives. Despite stocking up at shops and markets advertising natural and organic products, we continued to notice allergic reactions. We decided to take matters into our own hands, seeking out small farms in the area that genuinely produced natural, preservative-free food without the chemicals so common in modern products. It worked—food from local producers was well-tolerated by our daughter.
Our contact list of nearby producers grew, and neighbours and friends started asking us to bring back food for them too. Over time, the scale of these efforts grew so large that we decided to create a portal and invite others beyond our circle to join the initiative. It turned out to be a fantastic decision, as over 55,000 families have since shared our enthusiasm and joined the Lokalny Rolnik community.
How did you find out about DPD Food?
We began collaborating with DPD two years ago to facilitate nationwide delivery. This is how we discovered the option to ship food in controlled temperatures of 0-4°C. When the service became available, we immediately decided to partner with DPD Food, and we’ve been expanding this collaboration ever since.
How long have you been working with DPD Food, and how does the service meet your needs?
We’ve been working with DPD Food for about six months. This specialised food transport service is far superior to traditional courier delivery and, importantly, more cost-effective for our customers.
Would you recommend DPD Food to other business owners?
The initial tests of the service were a pleasant surprise for our customers. Since we operate in the B2C market, we’re working with DPD Food to further tailor the service to this segment. Additionally, we highly recommend DPD Food to businesses in the B2B food sector, as it opens up entirely new opportunities for reaching different markets.
