Article 4.10 of the General Terms and Conditions
The fact that the DPD took over the parcel for transportation and delivery does not mean that we are obligated to examine the content of each and every parcels and the required parcel transportation licences. If the Sender does not provide DPD with any notifications, it will be considered that it is not transportation of goods that cannot be transported.
Given the increasing need for private customers to send parcels abroad, as well as within the Republic of Croatia, private customers who send such parcels often don’t pre-insure goods. Since it is common that in such parcels, in most cases, goods are sent without proof of value or valid invoice, and these parcels usually contain used clothing and/or homemade food, in the case of damage there is no possibility of compensation for damage from the insurance company or from the depot where the damage occurred. Therefore, the client is not entitled to compensation for the value of goods in the parcel caused by the damage or loss of the parcels.
DPD Croatia has signed a contract with the Wiener insurance company, more precisely company Europosredovanje and offers private consignors/consignees the possibility of additional private insurance of contents. In case of damage or loss of the parcel, consignor/consignee is entitled to compensation for damage. In this case, DPD refers to Article 12.11. of the General Conditions which says:
“In case of sending a parcel with private contents, for which the Sender does not have an invoice as proof of the purchase value of the goods, the Service Provider offers additional insurance at an extra charge, depending on the current valuation of the value of the content. In the case of sending a parcel containing private used items, the Service Provider offers additional insurance at an extra charge, which also depends on the current valuation of the value of the content.”
If the consignor/consignee decides for additional insurance, it is necessary to forward the list of parcel contents, along with their value, to the e-mail [email protected]. The consignor/consignee will be contacted by Europosredovanje with the insurance offer.
Private customers who send items such as food, beverages, tobacco or cigarettes to the United Kingdom (Wales, Ireland, Scotland, England) should be aware that there is a risk of customs confiscating parcel contents. Also, DPD UK doesn’t support the transport of such content, and in that case, the consignor is sending such goods at its own risk.
In the event of loss, damage or confiscation of a non-insured parcel, DPD Croatia is not liable for the cost of damage. The consignor is sending the goods at its own risk.
