DPD working environment and culture

As a family-friendly employer, we focus on offering our employees a meaningful working environment with many opportunities to do purposeful, intelligent work, as well as a reasonable workload so that people have the energy and enthusiasm to fully enjoy their time with their family and friends. The needs of family life change and require a flexible approach – what is important during one stage of life might be less important a few years later.

It is crucial for DPD to notice and be available for its employees, to provide them with flexibility and support in reconciling family life and work. We do this through high-quality management, good relations with colleagues, as well as through the benefits we offer.

As an employer, we value diversity highly – we joined the Estonian Diversity Charter in 2014 and do not discriminate against anyone on the basis of race, religion, colour, ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status or disability.

A violin alone does not make an orchestra – people with different ways of thinking and from different backgrounds enrich our team, enable us to see different approaches to solving challenges and expand our world view. Awareness of diverse people, relationships and family structures promotes understanding, acceptance and respect. It is important to be empathetic, understanding and inclusive in communities and work teams.

Occupational health and culture

A safe and secure working environment is one of the pillars of our sustainable human resources management, as it helps to ensure the health and well-being of our employees by reducing the risk of occupational accidents and diseases. Good occupational health and safety systems increase the motivation, satisfaction and productivity of employees and support the long-term success of the organisation.

Twice a year, we organise a Health Month with various health-related and training events for our employees.

Inclusion of employees

Every year, we organise a Week of Diversity, Equality and Inclusion, where employees are encouraged to take part in discussions and address issues such as:

  • Cultural diversity and understanding different ethnic groups;
  • Communities of different generations, their experiences, perspectives and values;
  • Gender equality;
  • Special needs and neurodivergences.

Work-life balance and well-being

Work capacity and performance are based on good physical and mental health, which in turn depend on the availability of physical and mental resources. Flexible working time solutions, mental health support and raising the awareness of employees about health and well-being are ways in which we as an employer can support a healthy work-life balance.

Courier Day

The volumes of e-commerce have reached record levels in Estonia and approximately 70% of the Estonian population who order goods from online stores are customers of parcel delivery services. The work of couriers also allows e-commerce to reach smaller settlements, where there are few or no physical stores.

DPD has been celebrating Courier Day on the third Friday of November since 2011 to value the intensive, strenuous and precise work of couriers before Christmas, the busiest working period of the year.

On Courier Day, management representatives visit distribution centres across Estonia to bring gifts to couriers and accompany them on their delivery rounds. We also visit other parcel delivery companies to celebrate with their couriers.
