Delivery process differences in Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark

• Parcel for a company prepared using the DPD Classic service

Two attempts are made to deliver the parcel. If the second attempt fails, the recipient can either collect it from the distribution centre or contact Postnord to arrange a new delivery time. The parcel is stored at the distribution centre for seven calendar days. If the customer does not collect it, it is returned to the sender.

• Parcel for an individual prepared using the DPD Private service

When a parcel which has been prepared using the DPD Private service arrives at the destination depot in Finland, an SMS and/or e-mail (depending on the information available in the database) is sent to the recipient. They are informed of the date and time of the parcel’s arrival and offered the chance to change the delivery time or method (rerouting to a pick-up point or delivery to an agreed location). If the customer does not respond, the shipment is delivered to the address on the parcel’s label at the time specified in the notification. If the delivery attempt fails, the shipment is forwarded to the nearest MyPack pick-up point, where it is held for seven calendar days. If the customer does not collect it, it is returned to the sender.

The recipient's phone number must be a local one in order to receive the SMS notification. No SMS notifications are sent to Estonian numbers.

• Pallets for a company prepared using the DPD Classic service

One attempt to deliver the pallet. If the first delivery attempt fails, the sender has to prepare new parcel label for the second delivery.

Notification of failed delivery attempt and next steps:

  1. Notification of a failed delivery attempt will be sent to you via DPD customer service.

  2. Create a new parcel label in your ordering environment.

  1. Forward the new parcel label to DPD customer service [email protected].

• Parcel for a company prepared using the DPD Classic service

One attempt is made by a courier to deliver the parcel. If this proves unsuccessful, the parcel is automatically forwarded to the nearest MyPack pick-up point, where it is held for seven calendar days. If the customer does not collect it, it is returned to the sender.

If the first delivery attempt fails and the parcel is not delivered because the recipient:
• refuses the parcel; or
• does not reside/exist at the address on the label
then the parcel is immediately returned to the sender.

• Parcel for an individual incorrectly formatted using the DPD Classic service

The parcel is automatically forwarded to the nearest MyPack pick-up point. If the parcel weighs more than 20 kg or has a circumference of more than 300 cm, it is not forwarded to the MyPack pick-up point and must be collected from the depot.
The customer cannot have the parcel delivered to another address. Parcels are held at the MyPack pick-up point for seven calendar days. The customer is notified of the arrival of the parcel at the pick-up point. If the customer does not collect it, it is returned to the sender.

• Parcel for an individual prepared using the DPD Private service

When a parcel arrives at the main depot in Sweden, an SMS and a notification are sent to the individual and the Postnord app (or by e-mail, depending on the information in the database) informing them of the date and time of arrival and offering the chance to change the delivery time or delivery method (rerouting to a pick-up point or delivery to an agreed location). If the customer does not respond, the parcel is delivered to the customer's address at the time specified in the notification and left there without the customer’s signature being sought.

If the customer selects a delivery time, the shipment is delivered at that time. If the first attempt fails, the parcel is forwarded to the nearest MyPack pick-up point, where it is held for seven calendar days. If the customer does not collect it, it is returned to the sender.

If the first delivery attempt fails and the parcel is not delivered because the recipient:

• refuses the parcel; or
• does not reside/exist at the address on the label
then the parcel is immediately returned to the sender.
The recipient's phone number must be a local one in order to receive the SMS notification. No SMS notifications are sent to Estonian numbers.

• Pallets

One attempt to deliver the pallet. If this proves unsuccessful, the recipient can either collect it from the distribution centre or arrange second attempt for a extra cost. The pallet is stored at the distribution centre for seven calendar days. If the customer does not collect it, it is returned to the sender.

• Deliveries to restricted areas

In areas with restricted access, parcels can only be sent to the nearest Pickup parcel lockers and pick-up points; deliveries to a specific address are not possible. A list of postcodes in Sweden where courier services cannot be provided to specific addresses can be found HERE.

When sending a parcel to Norway, note that the sender and recipient must agree on who will pay the Norwegian customs duties and VAT before the parcel is dispatched. DPD is not responsible for the completion of customs documents and cannot be held liable for the accuracy and/or sufficiency of the information contained therein, nor for the payment of customs duties and/or VAT. In the event that a DPD representative pays the customs duties and/or VAT on behalf of the recipient and the recipient fails to fulfil their obligations before the DPD representative, DPD shall be entitled to demand the immediate payment of the amount owed by the recipient from the customer i.e. the sender. Click here for more information on customs formalities.

Two attempts are made to deliver the shipment. If these fail, the parcel is returned to the sender.

• Parcel for an individual prepared using the DPD Private service

As part of the DPD Private service, the parcel is delivered to the recipient's door or mailbox without the recipient's signature being sought. When a parcel arrives at the destination depot in Norway, an SMS and/or e-mail (depending on the information in the database) containing the parcel’s delivery date is sent to the recipient. The recipient can choose to have the parcel delivered to the back of their house, a garden shed, a garage or another location specified by them. After delivery, a new notification is sent to the recipient containing information on when and where the parcel was delivered. If the courier does not deem it reasonable to deliver the parcel without obtaining the recipient’s signature (e.g. in the case of an apartment building), the parcel is delivered to the nearest MyPack pick-up point, where it is held for seven calendar days. If the customer does not collect it, it is returned to the sender.

The recipient's phone number must be a local one in order to receive the SMS notification. No SMS notifications are sent to Estonian numbers.

• If a delivery attempt for a parcel weighing less than 20 kg fails, the parcel is forwarded to the nearest MyPack pick-up point.

• If a delivery attempt for a parcel weighing more than 20 kg fails, the courier, where possible, delivers the parcel to the address without obtaining the recipient’s signature. If this is not possible, the parcel is held at a distribution centre from which the recipient can collect it. The holding period is seven calendar days. If the customer does not collect it, it is returned to the sender.
