During the e-Monday and Black Friday campaigns in November, the volumes of e-commerce and sending parcels grow exponentially compared to usual, which is why the courier and logistics company DPD Estonia increases its service capacity and hires 60 people as an additional seasonal labour.
“The peak of the year for e-commerce and parcel shipping always falls in the months of November and December, when large global shopping campaigns take place and are used, among other things, for buying Christmas gifts. Although in the stormy year of 2022, any kind of forecasting is a thankless job, we at DPD still started preparing for Christmas early,” said Remo Kirss, head of DPD Estonia.
In preparation for late autumn shopping parties and Christmas, DPD added to its 55 most popular existing parcel machines approximately 2,000 lockers of different sizes all over Estonia – both in big cities and smaller settlements. The expansion of parcel machines will continue until mid-November. From the second week of November until Christmas, DPD has added additional manpower both to the sorting centre and to Estonian roads in the form of couriers and vans.
“For the high season, we have also planned additional filling and emptying of the parcel machines, and the customers themselves can also help here by picking up their parcels as soon as possible, so that other parcels also reach their recipients as quickly as possible,” added Remo Kirss. If outside the e-shopping peak season, DPD collects shipments from business customers on working days, in November and December it is also done on Saturdays and Sundays. The company has also carried out the necessary maintenance work in the sorting centre so that all the sorting lines are also ready for the season and growing parcel volumes
Remo Kirss added that the e-Monday and Black Friday discount campaigns taking place in November are a great opportunity to purchase Christmas gifts early and at a good price, because early purchase of gifts helps to better plan their forwarding to loved ones who cannot be met in person during the Christmas season.
“By planning and preparing early, together we can do everything fot that no gift package is late, and Christmas will be bright,” noted Remo Kirss, and suggested getting acquainted with the myDPD customer environment solution, which allows packages to be redirected, if necessary, if unexpected things should happen in a person’s planned time schedule. “This helps to reduce couriers’ idle journeys and deliver the package at the first attempt – this is especially important from the point of view of the skyrocketing volume of packages in late autumn”.
