Relief operation for earthquake victims: donations exceed all expectations

Aschaffenburg, 23 May 2023: "We're providing help together" - this was the slogan of the large-scale relief initiative launched by the leading transport and logistics companies DPD, SunExpress, FIEGE, time:matters, CB Customs Broker GmbH and Lufthansa Cargo. Now that the airlift to the crisis region is coming to an end, it is clear that people's willingness to help the earthquake victims has exceeded all expectations.

The six transport and logistics partners had joined forces to form a relief alliance in order to ensure the fast and unbureaucratic transport of urgently needed aid to the earthquake area, and to provide reliable support for the enormous willingness of private citizens to offer their help. Since 17 February more than 6,000 parcels handed in by private donors at the DPD Pickup parcelshops have been transported to Antalya via the airlift. This represents about 1,000 tonnes of relief goods. Constant and close communication with the Turkish aid organisation AFADA ensured that the relief supplies reached the places where they were most urgently needed.

"On behalf of the DPD family I would like to thank all our partners and donors who have contributed with their personal commitment to the success of this vitally important relief operation. With the airlift we have shown how such a team can provide effective emergency aid. At the same time, it's clear that even though our relief operation has come to an end, the situation in Turkey and Syria is still critical. That's why I can only call on people to continue to provide active support to the many committed aid and fundraising organisations."
