The voice behind DPD: Our Timo
DPD: "How long have you been working at DPD Switzerland?"
Timo: "I already had a trial day in October, where I was able to get to know DPD and its departments a little better. I have been officially employed since 15.11.2021."
DPD: "What is your job at DPD?"
Timo: "I work for DPD as a Front Office Specialist in the Customer Service department. This means I take care of answering and resolving telephone enquiries from our customers and consignees. The issues concerned are, for example, the execution of reallocations (address changes, redirection to a DPD pickup parcelshop or the deposit of a drop-off authorisation), the processing of complaints or the registration of pick-up orders. I am therefore in daily contact with our depots to clarify the best possible solution for the calling customer."
DPD: "What do you like most about your job?"
Timo: "What I like most about my job is to help the people who call us with my expertise. To reassure them by thoughtfully suggesting possible solutions and to give them feedback that is satisfactory to them. I am particularly pleased when a customer who was very upset at the beginning of the phone call calms down noticeably during the call and even says goodbye with a nice thank you at the end. In this way he or she shows me an appreciation that makes me personally very happy."
DPD: "Is there a situation that has particularly stuck with you in your job?"
Timo: "Yes, once I had an elderly lady on the phone who felt noticeably lost because she had no connection to today's technology. She wanted to return a parcel, but didn't even know how to do it. As I had noticed that she truly had no idea what to do, I took the extra minute to set up an e-mail account with her, which she could then use to contact the sender directly and request the return label. I also explained to her at which DPD Pickup parcelshop she could drop off her parcel. I could feel her gratitude at the end of our conversation and a few days later I even received a very nice e-mail from her again thanking me.
DPD: "What were the three best moments you experienced last year and why?"
Timo: "That's a good question. I can answer that quite simply. The first moment was completing my commercial apprenticeship (E profile) with a five-point average. The second was the job confirmation from DPD, because it's no longer a matter of course to find a job straight after completing an apprenticeship. So I was all the more pleased about the job offer. My third best moment was buying my dream car, a Mercedes C-Class. I saved up my entire education for the car. It was an incredibly great moment where I was able to buy this car completely with my own money."
DPD: "Do you have valuables that you always carry with you? And if so, do they have any special meaning for you?"
Timo: "Basically just my basic things, like my mobile phone, my Apple AirPods and my car key. These things don't have any special meaning for me. I'm just an absolute music fan and really like listening to English hip-hop and rap, mostly from the US and the UK. Otherwise, these items are just useful and simplify my life."
DPD: "How do you notice that you are slowly getting older?"
Timo: "To be honest, the last few years have gone by too quickly. You notice that you're getting older because in the past there was always something that had to happen - always action. Today, you tend to consciously set periods of time where you want to have your peace and then enjoy that peace and calm to the fullest."
DPD: "Which film has inspired you the most in your life so far?"
Timo: "I would actually name three film series for this question. Definitely the Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and Star Wars. They teach you a lot of moral values, how to behave in certain situations. In addition, they show that even as a so-called underdog, you always have the possibility to achieve something, even if you may not always have the optimal conditions.
DPD: "What would you definitely like to learn again?"
Timo: "Back then, I was a member of a boxing club. At that time, I had my first contact with the sport, which made me personally very enthusiastic and advanced me. I would like to return to the sport and fight my first amateur fights as a goal. I find boxing very interesting because for me it not only expresses incredible energy and strength, but also involves strong mental fitness and inner calm and serenity. A boxer learns in an absolute pressure situation to keep a clear mind and tactically get his opponent under control. It's not just a sport, it's a true way of life."
