We are very delighted that our second e-truck has been on the roads since 14 March 2022 and we will increase our CO2 savings per year.
Our first e-truck has been in use for over a year now. Our Guinness World Record holder, which had the largest battery capacity in Europe at 680 kWh when it first went into service, exceeded the originally planned 760 km in one full battery charge by over 300 km during its world record journey. Over the past year, we have been able to save about 72 tonnes of CO2 with this e-truck.
The new e-truck is currently being used for collections from our customer L’Oréal in Muggensturm (Germany) to Switzerland. Another route is planned from June 2022. The e-truck is used at night between Möhlin and Bussigny-près-Lausanne.
Our second e-truck is made by the same manufacturer Futuricum and is the same Logistics 18E model. The initial vehicle (Volvo FH) has been given a facelift, including visual and technical revisions. Our second e-truck also has a larger battery capacity at 900 kWh. Based on our experience, with our first e-truck able to drive 400 km on one battery charge in daily, real-life operation, we expect the second e-truck to drive 600 km on one battery charge. This gives an annual target distance of 200,000 km for our second e-truck.
The challenge with this kind of annual mileage lies in the planning. It is important that the charging points are stationed in the right places and can provide the appropriate charging power, depending on demand. We have been able to meet this challenge very well with our operational network and a 150 kW charging point.
